Originally from Hong Kong and now based in Wales, Gary is a figurative artist passionate about capturing urban scenes and natural landscapes, both in his studio and outdoors. His main mediums are ink and watercolour, although he also enjoys working with acrylics and oils. He is one of the co-founders of Urban Sketchers Hong Kong, the Hong Kong chapter of the global Urban Sketchers network. After relocating to the Newport area of Wales in 2021, Gary continued his passion for urban sketching, connecting with fellow sketchers and exploring his new surroundings through art. These connections led him to co-found Urban Sketchers Newport in 2023, bringing together local artists who share a passion for sketching on location. Beyond urban and rural landscapes, Gary is also passionate about illustration, exploring a wide range of subjects, including wildlife, imaginative settings, legends and mythology from different cultures. His work reflects a curiosity about both the natural world and the rich traditions of storytelling across cultures. Since 2021, Gary has exhibited his work at various art venues across South Wales, including Barnabas Arts House (Newport), Gallery 57 (Newport), Newport Museum and Art Gallery, Cowbridge Art Society (Cowbridge), Cardiff M.A.D.E, Pontypool Museum, and The Riverfront Theatre (Newport). In 2026, Gary was awarded the Contemporary Art Society for Wales Hibbard Prize.
